This 70-minute Documentary, Black Theatre
Today: 2005 presents informative interviews by
professional actors, directors, producers and
playwrights from around the country who have
made and are still making valuable contributions
to theatre. It stars Tonya Pinkins, Anika
Noni-Rose, Keith David, Wren Brown, Dawnn
Lewis, Ella Joyce, Viola Davis, Richard Gant,
Nikki Crawford, Harry Lennix, Thea-Marie
Perkins, Glynn Turman, Tangie Ambrose, Art
Evans, Virginia Capers and Russell Hornsby.
Filmed in Los Angeles, the interviews are candid,
emotional, truthful, funny, frightening and clear.
The documentary also features artists who have
performed from Broadway to Los Angeles in
legitimate and community theatres. With
standards from the late Red Saunders, with his
Orchestra and New Orleans' own Music Alive
Orchestra, Perky Idea's paints a compelling
portrait of the state of Black Theatre.
