Cherng is forced to grow up quicker than he wants after witnessing
the death of his father. He struggles between the joys of childhood
and the responsibility that he now holds in a broken household. But
as he looks back on those years after his father's death does he
realize the true strength and example his mother showed in taking up
responsibility. It is through the actions of his mother and her
willingness to sacrifice for Cherng and his brother that Cherng learns
the true meaning of love and responsibility.

exterior and lonely routines help keep his torment at bay…until a
young Ameriasian girl is abandoned in his care. An unwelcome
reminder of all that he has struggled to forget, the little girl forces him
to confront his conflicts, and becomes a catalyst for healing in a
community of forgotten Americans.
