Grissi Siknis
The Magic Sickness of the Jungle
 94min

Grissi Siknis is a jungle madness, a contagious,
culturally-bound syndrome that occurs exclusively
among the Miskito indigenous of eastern central
america. The Grissi Siknis is typically
characterized by longer periods of anxiety,
nausea, dizziness, irrational anger and fear,
interlaced with short periods of rapid frenzy, in
which the victims loses consciosness, believe that
devils beat them and have sexual relation with
them, and runs away... The causes of Grissi
Siknis are indefinite but the prevailing western
theory calls this syndrome a psychological
disorder due to stress, upheaval and despair.
Miskito belief holds that Grissi Siknis is the result
of evil spiritsor black sorcerers.
